Was part of the engineering team working on the first phase of the Colombo Smart City Project - (Smart Lighting of Colombo)

Responsibilities Included:
Supervising the work and repairs carried out in the Richardson warehouse in Peliyagoda
Converting data measured by the Colombo Municipal Council into AutoCAD drawings to be used for lighting calculations
Using the AutoCAD drawings to carry out lighting simulations on AGI32, to calculate the optimum positions for new LED Smart Lights to be placed.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer - The University of Sheffield (MEng Thesis), Sheffield, UK

October 2019 - April 2020

Carried out an investigative research project into the feasibility of using low-grade natural gas as an alternative energy source. Carried out detailed CFD simulations on high-grade natural gas, and varying levels of low-grade natural gas to investigate flame properties, and emission contents that would be generated. Was awarded a First-Class mark for the research project.

Junior Mechanical Design Engineer  - Paneltex Ltd, Hull, UK

September 2019 - August 2019

Responsibilities included assisting with the design and manufacture (design for manufacture) of the refrigerated truck and trailer bodywork. This included CAD design of components, producing technical drawings for in house production and external suppliers, hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations to validate designs.

Projects undertaken include:

1. Design of a radical prototype Home Delivery Vehicle for the food distribution company, Brakes Sysco, based on UPS Delivery Vans – Clients were reportedly very pleased with the design
2. Design of automated central locking system for use on prototype Home Delivery Vehicles for Waitrose – The design was incorporated in Home Delivery Vehicles for clients in France and Canada
3. Design and re-purposing of an old warehouse to a spray shop for finished Home Delivery Vehicles

Mechanical Engineering Intern  - Collaborative Project Between University of Sheffield & Performance Engineered Solutions [PES] Ltd, Sheffield, UK

February 2018 - May 2018

Was part of a team tasked with designing a modular fixture system to aid with PES’s 3D-Scanning Operations. Was responsible for selection of materials and manufacturing techniques to be used, and carried out FEA simulations to validate designs.

Mechanical Technician - Associated Motorways (Private) Limited, Colombo, Sri Lanka

August 2017 - September 2017

Carried out Express Maintenance service on the entire range of Nissan, Datsun, and Renault cars in Sri Lanka. Tasks done included oil changing, cleaning or replacing of air and oil filters, cleaning brake drums, measuring tyre tread depth, measuring brake disk and brake pad depths etc

Carried out General Repairs on the same range of cars. Issues dealt with included:

1. Fixing engine leaks

2.     Replacing worn out clutch cables

3.     Fixing damaged turbocharger actuators
