Über Markus Englert:
Self-motivated highly productive protein engineer, protein biochemist and enzymologist. Led collaborative research teams as liaison and applied my project management skills to keep projects in time and meeting objectives. I effectively communicate protein biochemical concepts to team members with various backgrounds and manage teams with diverse personalities and skill sets.
Erfahrung
Starting with activity-guided enzyme purification I got fascinated about enzymes. Through structure-function studies I characterize enzymes; with rational and evolutionary approaches I enhance / engineer enzymes. Within synthetic biology, I connect enzymes to pathways; with metabolic engineering, I embed enzymatic pathways in a cellular context.
Ausbildung
I studied Diploma Chemistry in Tübingen and Würzburg (Germany). Within the main studies and my Diploma thesis, I focussed on Biochemistry. During my PhD in Biochemistry, I was a protein purifier and enzymologist which led to the identification of the plant RNA splicing ligase. With a Feodor-Lynen-Fellowship of the Alexander from Humbold Foundation, I started as Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University, Dept. of Mol. Biophysics and Biochemistry to identify the archaeal and human RNA ligase RtcB - also involved in the unfolded protein response. This opened the door to collaborate as Yale Faculty member on Synthetic Biology.
