Applied the deep learning model developed during the master's thesis to extract valuable information such as segmenting solar panels, creating bounding boxes, and pinpointing their exact locations within the Salzburg region

Analysing the extracted information to provide insights into solar panel distribution, density and potential location for further work

Utilizing QGIS tool to overlay the solar panel data onto geographic maps, aiding in visualizing the spatial distribution of solar installations

Future works: Develop a web map interface that displays the information extracted from the model, making it accessible to stakeholders

and decision makers

Master Thesis

Topic: Automatic detection, identification and analysis of rooftop solar photovoltaics from satellite imagery using deep learning

Developed deep learning pipeline to extract segments of solar panels along with their bounding box and location for Salzburg region

Leveraged the power of Mask R-CNN and the framework was implemented using PyTorch

TensorBoard, an essential visualization tool in deep learning, was utilized to monitor & analyze the model’s performance

Key challenges- Data annotation, developing model for big satellite images, bounding box creation, precise location detection
