I am writing to express my great interest. My name is Owais I am currently a master’s student with basic scientific skills in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry at the University of Copenhagen in the Department of Chemistry. I have more than 6 years of experience in the lab and have focused my whole education towards being an experimentalist. 

My studies at the university have been medical- and organic chemistry-oriented, and therefore I am particularly interested in this work by panning and synthesizing compound with great possibilities and studying their properties, nonetheless their relation to biological studies. I am a highly skilled synthetic chemist, which makes me knowledgeable about modern lab work and analytical measurements. Medicinal chemistry excites me due to their big challenges to overcome within the body, making this field quite thrilling for me to work with. 

In addition to my research, other areas within the medical and drug fields interest me. To have a vision that your research can have an impact on other people’s lives fuels my passion. I am familiar with blood-brain barrier, lipid receptors, GPCR, and essay tests. I am experienced in screening and doing synthetic chemistry. I value being both independent and working along with collaborative researchers; nonetheless, I am not afraid where the research takes me. 

I am planning to finish my master’s degree in May/June 2023 and will be able thereafter. I would enjoy discussing this position. Thank you for your consideration.

My bachelor’s project and research project were conducted under the supervision of Associate Prof. Ji- Woong Lee, where our research is based on methodology and catalysis within Organic Chemistry. In my bachelor’s project, I developed a methodology for the catalytic trifluoromethylation of a chlorobenzene derivative to activate the C-Cl bond for trifluoromethylation reactions, which was provided by Lundbeck to improve neuro-drugs. In my research project, I have developed a methodology to activate two organic compounds to generate reactive radical species to generate γ-lactone through radical cyclization. Research has shown the potential to generate thiolactones and lactams.

My Master’s thesis and research project are ongoing with Associate Prof. Michael Pittelkow, where our research is based on designing organic compounds with great value. My project involves building a large aromatic system through a 10-step synthesis for AFM-STM studies (in collaboration with Leo Gross at Zürich, IBM Research). This involves investigating aromatic and antiaromatic properties and synthetic planning. My academic training and experience working with the Lee and Pittelkow groups have prepared me as an effective researcher.
