    We are offering a doctoral position at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at Bielefeld University. The faculty consists of more than 30 professors and 2000 students are enrolled in different study programmes. The position allocated to the Chair of Economic Theory and Computational Economics (ETACE) and the doctoral student will become a fellow in structured doctoral programme, the Bielefeld Graduate School of Economics and Management (BiGSEM).

    The Working Group ETACE studies dynamic economic processes, in particular in the context of technological change, digitization and innovation, as well as strategic behavior and the effects of different economic policy measures in complex and uncertain environments. Your Tasks
  • research in the field of economic theory and computational economics. In particular, analysis of firm behavior, economic dynamics and dynamic effects of economic policy or regulation in the context of technological change, digitalization or related topics. A methodological focus on one of the fields of dynamic optimization, dynamic games, numerical methods, (agent-based) simulation, machine learning or a combination thereof is desirable (65 %).
  • teaching tutorials in the area of agent-based computational economics, industry dynamics, economics of innovation and related fields, up to LVS, including grading assistance and supervision of seminars and theses (25 %).
  • administrative duties and/or collaboration in committees (10 %)
  • Enrollment and active participation in the doctoral programme of the Bielefeld Graduate School of Economics and Management (BiGSEM) is expected; for more information about BiGSEM see .

    Employment is conducive to scientific qualification. Your Profile We expect
  • (at the date of employment) completed academic degree (Master or equivalent) in economics, mathematical economics or related subjects (e. g. Mathematics, Statistics)
  • fluent English (oral and written)
  • ability to carry out independent scientific work
  • strong communication and teamwork skills
  • ability to work in teams and cooperate with others
  • intention to pursue a doctoral degree in the context of the Bielefeld Graduate School of Economics and Management (BiGSEM), enrollment and active participation in the BiGSEM is expected for this position
  • Preferred experience and skills
  • previous knowledge in one of the areas industry dynamics, economics of innovation, dynamic optimization, (dynamic) game theory, numerical methods, (agent-based) simulation, machine learning
  • We offer
  • salary according to Remuneration level 13 TV-L
