Hauptaufgaben

Serves as Engineering Technician (Electrical) working on electrical systems supporting telecommunications equipment operated by the Network Enterprise Center. Tracks, monitors, and sustains all associated equipment and systems that are required by Army Signal standards within the NEC Primary Telecommunications Rooms (PTR), Augmented Telecommunications Rooms (ATR), and Telecommunications Rooms (TR). Electrical systems may include low voltage cable distribution, back-up generators, frequency converters, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), batteries, medium voltage, lightning protection, and Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and all additional equipment using power within the TR. Responsible for the maintenance of the physical IT diagrams within the TR. Validates existing switch utilization, power infrastructure and circuitry within NEC TRs to ensure IT and associated facility equipment is properly powered for redundancy. Generates plans and sketches to make recommendations to supervisor and subject matter experts. Serves as TR construction site and project lead for maintenance and new installation of power and backup power systems for telecommunications equipment. Leads the oversight role performing electrical Quality Assurance functions when work is completed by an external agency. Responsible for execution oversight and reporting on status. Independently reviews project specifications and necessary documentation for submission to the servicing Department of Public Works, Network Chief, or contracting office, and oversees the design and construction of such projects. Along with the IT Planner, reviews designs and cost estimates and establishes bills of material for assigned projects as it relates to electrical requirements. As required, determines warranty application for subsequent deficiencies.
Monitors inspects, tracks, and reports on repair and maintenance of TR related systems and provides situational awareness to the NEC Director, Network Infrastructure Chief, and Project Managers. Maintains overall metrics for each TR and their associated systems to provide both reporting and overall health statistics across the network infrastructure spanning all installations within the NEC's AoR.Trained and performs Information Systems Installer functions to enable an evaluation of the equipment racks, their electrical cabling, and continuity of the associated grounding systems. Opens, tracks, and follows-through with submitting work orders through various agencies to ensure problems that are identified are tracked through to resolution. Tracks are reports, the life cycle status of all switches and electrical support systems within the TR.
Conducts site visits to investigate current condition of facilities and systems to determine necessary technical data concerning modification, alteration, maintenance or repair or new installation projects. In all phases or work involvement, consideration is given to energy conservation, environmental, occupational safety, and health regulations. Reviews and studies plans and drawings for physical switch configurations, maintenance and new installation of power and backup power for telecommunications systems, and makes interpretations of same, referring unique, unusual aspects or discrepancies in drawings or specifications to supervisor as it applies to TRs. Checks plans, specifications, drawings, cost estimates and other supporting material for completeness, consistency, and adequacy in accordance with existing requirements. Coordinates with executing agencies (US Army Corps of Engineers, DPW, local Bauämter, local contractors etc.) in electrical technical matters of design deficiencies and in the preparation of designs, and sustainment of preventative maintenance, for electrical and IT related systems. Applies a practical knowledge of engineering principles in assessing specific requirements, delineating engineering design and translating what is required to allow for accurate assessment of scope of work, cost, time materials, etc.

E&T Level I, II and III: not creditable for this occupational series

E&T Level IVB and IVC: A Meister Diploma or Staatlich gepruefter Techniker in a trades or crafts field directly related to the position; PLUS 3 years of job related experience as defined below.

E&T Level IV A and D: not creditable for positions in this occupational series. E&T Level V: Graduation from a University or equivalent, e.g., Fachhochschule, the Berufsakademie,or Technische Hochschule as Wirtschaftsingenieur, Ingenieur des Maschinenwesens, der Elekrotechnik oder des Bauwesens; PLUS 2 years of job related experience as defined below.

Job Related Experience: Experience must be directly related to the area of specialization of the position and must be at a level of difficulty that compares to the grade of the position. Advanced journeyman trades and crafts experience that provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods and precedents is a prerequisite, e.g., experience as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic that shows progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of the area of specialization of the position.

• Applicants must be in possession of a German driver's license class B.

• Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver's license.

• Office automation skills are required.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVEL:

English Language Proficiency level B2 AND German Language Proficiency level B1 required.

• The incumbent of this position is occasionally required to perform TDY (Temporary Duty Travel).
