    Firefighter (Airplane Rescue)

    Job Summary

    This is a firefighter position in a U.S. Army Garrison Fire Department. The successful candidate will be assigned to a firefighting crew responsible for providing emergency response at multiple sites within or on the Army installation, including diverse fire hazards such as highly flammable liquids, high explosives, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), radioactive materials, and other non-standard hazards.

    Key Responsibilities

    The firefighter will be involved in the full spectrum of emergency response assigned to a garrison fire department, including firefighting, hazardous material response, and related aid and rescue work associated with facilities and operations at the garrison. This may involve interacting with host nation responders and requires knowledge of host nation policies, protocols, procedures, and equipment.

    Qualifications

    To be eligible for this position, applicants must have completed lower secondary school (Education & Training Level I) and German certification as a basic firefighter. For promotion to P-3, applicants must also complete training in accordance with the guidelines of the US Forces Fire Prevention Program. Additionally, incumbent must possess and maintain host nation equivalent National Emergency Medical Technician (NEMT) certification and obtain valid host Nation certification to service and recharge fire extinguishers.

    Working Conditions

    Employee is required to work on weekends and holidays, as well as 3 shift work. Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be occasionally required. Heavy physical effort is required in handling objects weighing up to 160 lbs, and duties require full use of both arms, both legs, and fingers. Employee must remain clean-shaven to ensure integrity of mask fit for breathing apparatus.
