    Redox One develops iron-chromium flow batteries for the large-scale energy storage requirements of businesses and utilities. Engineered specifically for high-utilization applications that make low-carbon renewable energy sources reliable, our highly scalable flow battery solutions are setting new cost benchmarks for large-scale energy storage. Redox One is a spin-off from Tharisa Plc., a European headquartered and integrated resource group. To speed up our product roll-out, we are looking for a Development Engineer – Battery Testing to start immediately at our European Technology Center in Dortmund, Germany.

    Your Responsibilities

    As a Development Engineer – Battery Testing, you will play a crucial role in our research and development efforts to optimize and scale our iron-chromium redox-flow battery technology. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of engineers and researchers, which is dedicated towards the improvement of the battery cell-stack for our iron-chromium battery system. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Designing and executing test plans: develop comprehensive test plans for battery cells and cell-stacks with a focus on development and improvement. Conduct performance and durability testing.
    • Expanding test capacity: identify opportunities to enhance and expand test capacity to support the development pipeline, keeping up with increased testing demands.
    • Designing, building, and maintaining test rigs: design and build test rigs for specific testing requirements. Ensure the maintenance and calibration of test rigs to guarantee accurate and reliable test results.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams: work closely with battery system design, manufacturing and deployment teams to implement improvements based on test results.
    • Data analysis and optimization: analyze and interpret test data to identify areas for optimization and innovation. Implement improvements based on data analysis to enhance battery performance.
    • Test automation and programming: develop and implement test automation processes to improve testing efficiency and accuracy. Utilize programming languages for test automation and data analysis.
    • Capacity planning and project management: contribute to capacity planning for testing activities, ensuring alignment with project timelines. Effectively manage multiple testing projects simultaneously.
    • Documentation and communication: create documentation for test rigs and procedures. Communicate findings, conclusions, and recommendations to internal stakeholders, partners, and customers.

    Your Qualifications

    • BSc or MSc in engineering e.g., chemical/electrical/mechanical engineering or related fields. Alternatively, we are also interested in candidates who qualify as state-certified technical engineers.
    • At least three years of industry experience in research and development, preferably in energy storage.
    • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in battery testing, prototyping, and characterization. Background knowledge and experience in electrochemistry are a plus.
    • Proficient in using battery test software and data analysis tools, preferably Python.
    • Familiarity with redox-flow battery systems and their components is a plus.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
    • Strong communication skills in English and German, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment with a can-do attitude.
