    Beschreibung

The institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald is a world-renowned laboratory conducting pioneering research in the field of magnetic fusion science, with a focus on the Wendelstein 7-X stellarator.

Our international research team focuses on plasma physics and engineering to advance sustainable energy solutions through controlled fusion reactions. One of the research objectives is the safe operation of high power fusion devices. Precise management of thermal loads on plasma-facing components is critical.

At Wendelstein 7-X, the surface temperatures of ten divertor units are monitored by thirteen infrared systems, providing safeguards to maintain steady state operations without plasma interruptions.

The integration of machine learning algorithms offers a promising solution to dynamically predict and manage these thermal loads, thereby improving safety and operational efficiency.

We offer a position for a Postdoc (m/f/div) within the division Stellarator Heating, Plasma Diagnostics and Optimization (E3) to develop a generative AI framework to predict power load patterns on plasma-facing components of the Wendelstein 7-X, providing a novel solution to enable more efficient and safer plasma control strategies through data enrichment.

This framework will utilise various data sources including diagnostic data, existing infrared images, and planned magnetic configurations. Join us in this exciting endeavor at the forefront of fusion research.
