  • Job Overview

    You shall have a basic knowledge level including principles of customer service, TRICARE, quality control, and risk management, medical terminology, medical forms and records management, anatomy and physiology, guidelines for release of medical information, medical and legal ethics, infection control concepts, applicable systems technology, supply procedures, and information systems.

    Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS.)
  • Have the ability to read, speak, and write English fluently.
  • Must possess experience with medical terminology.
  • Be knowledgeable in general medical ethics, health records administration, telephone and email etiquette, office management methods, excellent communications and customer service skills, strong organizational background, and computer operations including Microsoft Windows and spreadsheet-type applications.
  • Two years experience with U.S. Military Healthcare delivery system and benefits or civilian managed care medical/administrative environment.
  • Two years of working experience in a medical office or clinic environment.
  • One year of experience with a Composite Health Care System (CHCS) or other Civilian Healthcare Computer System.
  • Responsibilities

  • Providing individualized patient education for preventive healthcare and health maintenance.
  • Greet patients/visitors at the front desk, information center, or office setting.
  • Answer main office phone line, direct telephone calls to appropriate sections for assistance, and take messages as required.
  • Initiate and locate patient medical records as needed.
  • Organize and research patient records, extract needed information, review, and release records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency within established guidelines.
  • Obtain updates and file paperwork in medical records as needed.
  • Perform other administrative and clerical duties in support of medical care and operational support.
  • Arrange and schedule medical appointments and determine patient eligibility for services. Relay general instructions to patients or make referrals to other sections.
  • Mini-register patients upon request.
