    Job Description

    Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) develops world class electrical technologies and products, as well as the associated integrated power generation and propulsion turnkey systems.     We are looking for a master thesis student to join Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) and support the development of a stationary test facility to test the cooling of electric motors (rotor cooling). The tasks include: the completion of initial design concept, detailed design using engineering tools e.g. Matlab, FEA and CFD, CAD of the facility components, liasing with suppliers to obtain quotes and ordering of components and instrumentation and commissioning of the test facility.

    This position offers exciting challenges and opportunities for an individual with relevant qualifications, and forms part of the exciting and rapid expansion of the company-wide electrical engineering activities.     Key accountabilities:

    • Designing of test facility components using CAD NX
    • Completing CFD simulations using StarCCM+ (or university CFD tool if available) to optimise the aerothermal design of components.
    • Using Matlab to design components
    • Contacting suppliers to obtain quotes and placing order of parts
    • Management and participation of component purchase, delivery and installation as part of the test facility build
    • Development of DAQ system for measurement
    • Documentation and reporting results

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering
    • Very good practical background of using CAD modelling software (NX preferable)
    • Very good practical background of using Matlab/Python
    • Good practical background of using CFD simulation software (StarCCM+ preferable)
    • Basic knowledge of using workshop tools for measurement and installation functions.
    • High interest and good experience in aerothermal measruements
    • Good ability to listen to instructions, set task priorities and solve problems quickly using engineering principals.
    • Fluent in English and German (written and spoken)
