Operating System Expertise: Perform operating system installations and configurations to maintain a reliable and secure environment.
Problem Resolution: Diagnose, report, and resolve system software faults and user-related issues.
Maintenance Activities: Plan, prepare, test, and implement maintenance activities, including patches and software upgrades.
Collaboration:
Interact with 1st and 3rd line support teams and other internal 2nd line support groups to ensure seamless operations.
Software Management: Install, test, and manage new software packages and releases while optimizing their configurations.
Performance Enhancement: Fine-tune application configurations for improved performance.
Auditing and Accountability: Implement auditing and accounting practices for system security and compliance.
Documentation: Maintain in-house software and documentation to keep systems up to date.
Additional Support: Provide extra support as needed, including working outside regular working hours when required.
Automated Updates: Manage and operate automatic software updates and OS installations.
Skills & Experience:
Linux Proficiency: Strong Linux administration skills, particularly in SLES and RHEL, with a deep understanding of storage, networking, and scripting.
Additional Skills:
Possess expertise in at least two of the following areas: Hadoop administration, basic database administration (MySQL / MariaDB), virtualization environments (ESX / Vcloud Director) and associated provisioning/lifecycle management (Autoyast / Kickstart), Solaris, or Netbackup.
Core Knowledge: Solid understanding of SAN and networking concepts.
Desirable Skills: Experience with HP hardware and knowledge of CHEF.
Language Proficiency: Excellent command of English; knowledge of German is advantageous.
Tool Proficiency: Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products.
ITIL Qualifications: ITIL qualifications are an advantage.
Customer Focus: Strong service ethos and excellent customer-facing skills.
