    Your responsibilities:

  • Conduct coupled numerical simulations to assess the potential environmental impact of high-level radioactive waste disposal in the overall hydrogeological system
  • Quantification of radionuclide migration in argillaceous formations on the host rock scale with a special focus on the geological conditions in Germany
  • Performance and evaluation of scenario analyses
  • Further development of existing, coupled modelling approaches to quantify the prevailing hydrogeochemical processes and possible process interactions
  • Presentation of own research results at national and international conferences and publication in scientific journals in English and German
  • Scientific and content-related support for ongoing research projects within the scope of the area of responsibility

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) with a geoscientific focus and a doctorate (PhD) specialising in hydrogeology and/or hydrogeochemistry
  • Extensive knowledge of numerical modelling of mass transport processes and geochemical reactions of radionuclides in argillaceous formations (e.g. PHREEQC)
  • Basic programming skills (e.g. Python, R)
  • Extensive experience in the application of numerical simulation programmes in the processing of scientific questions
  • Interdisciplinary research experience in understanding and quantifying complex relationships and interactions in geological systems
  • Ability to cooperate in interdisciplinary and international working groups
  • Very good written and spoken German language skills are required, as the field of work focuses on the final disposal in Germany and the teaching takes place in the Bachelor's degree programme
