In order to support the department Flight Management Systems, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

Internship (d/f/m) for certifiable aircraft multi-agent pathfinding:

Location: Manching
Start: as soon as possible
Duration: 6 months

The department "Flight Management Systems" at Airbus Defence and Space is in charge of system design and development of avionics, in particular military and civil Flight Management Systems (FMS) and Flight Guidance functions.

This covers manned aircraft and Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) like Barracuda and Eurodrone, including automatic/autonomous operations of these unmanned aircraft.

Multi-aircraft pathfinding holds additional challenges compared to classic single agent flight management regarding its safety.

Therefore, development of a multi-agent pathfinding algorithm does not only hold various technological challenges, but also several challenges from a certification point of view.

We are looking for a creative intern who is willing to explore, research and develop a potentially certifiable multi-agent pathfinding algorithm.

Methods can be classic or AI based approaches. The goal of the internship is the identification of a suitable approach and not the actual certification itself.

You will be working closely within our motivated and young team where you have the chance to learn agile software development, automated testing and modern software engineering considering quality and time.

Located about an hour's drive north of Munich, Manching is an up-and-coming market town that offers a wide range of leisure and cultural activities.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

Research and develop algorithms for potentially certifiable multiagent pathfinding
Integrate the selected algorithm into our development environment.

Desired skills and qualifications:

Enrolled Fulltime Master student (d/f/m) in Aeronautical Engineering / Mathematics / Computer Science or similar field of study.
Relevant experience in Python or C++
Knowledge of either: optimization or flight dynamics (principles of flight).
Good English skills.
Excellent team player.
