Discover personalized medical solutions for environmentally triggered diseases to promote a healthier society in a rapidly changing world.

The research group of Prof.

Stephan Speier investigates the role of beta cell mass and function at distinct stages of diabetes pathogenesis and aims to discover novel therapeutic targets for beta cell protection and recovery in type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

A central aspect of our research is the translation of our findings into the human setting by utilizing novel platforms to study human pancreatic tissue and islets.

In addition, we utilize our unique platforms to optimize alternative cell sources for the successful generation of cell replacement therapies for diabetes.

The research group of Prof. Stephan Speier is seeking for a highly motivated

Your mission

  • Working with animal models and human tissue samples in combination with live cell imaging, biochemical, histological and cell physiological approaches
  • Isolation and transplantation of islets
  • Processing and analysis of microscopic images
  • Recording and analysis of hormone secretion in perifusion studies
  • Conducting complex molecular, cell physiological and biochemical experiments
Your qualifications

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Physiology, Cell Biology, Biomedicine, or any related fields in biological and medical sciences
  • Ideally expertise in the work with animal models, cell biology and/or physiology
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and goaloriented
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language

In addition, there is also the possibility of granting an allowance if the necessary conditions are fulfilled. The position is (initially) limited to three years, but under certain circumstances an extension can be arranged.
