At Sofi, an artisanal bakery in Berlin's Mitte district, the art of breadmaking meets the slow movement's emphasis on craft, origin, materials and process.

Our pastries, bread, cakes and seasonal specials are made using traditional methods and carefully sourced ingredients.

Opened as a collaboration between Danish restaurateur Frederik Bille Brahe and Slowness in 2021, Sofi operates by a holistic philosophy in which aesthetics, atmosphere and overall brand identity form key parts of the quality we offer our customers.


As the Barista at Sofi, you will play a pivotal role in curating an outstanding coffee program that complements our artisanal baked goods and enhances the overall customer experience.

You will be responsible for crafting exceptional coffee beverages and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and efficiency within the coffee bar.


Responsibilities:


  • Prepare and serve a variety of specialty coffee beverages, including singleorigin pourovers, espressobased drinks and manual brews, adhering to established recipes and standards.
  • Dial in espresso shots, adjust grind settings, and calibrate brewing equipment to ensure optimal extraction and flavor consistency.
  • Engage with customers to understand their preferences and recommend coffee selections based on their taste preferences and flavor profiles.
  • Demonstrate expertise in various brewing techniques, including Chemex, V60, AeroPress, and French Press, to cater to diverse customer preferences.
  • Create intricate and visually appealing latte art to enhance the presentation of specialty drinks and elevate the overall coffee experience.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the coffee bar area, including equipment, brewing stations and serving areas, in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Stay informed about the latest coffee trends, industry developments, and emerging brewing methods, and share your knowledge with colleagues and customers.
  • Participate in coffee cuppings, training sessions, and educational workshops to further develop your skills and deepen your understanding of specialty coffee.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth operations, assist with tasks as needed and contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and handle busy periods with efficiency and grace, maintaining a high level of service and attention to detail.

Qualifications:


  • 12 years experience as a barista in a specialty coffee setting or a strong passion for specialty coffee and a willingness to learn.
  • SCA Training or certificate is a big plus.
  • Indepth knowledge of coffee origins, flavor profiles, and brewing methods, with a focus on specialty coffee appreciation.
  • Proficiency in espresso extraction, milk texturing, and latte art, demonstrating precision and attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor, capable of building rapport with customers and creating memorable experiences.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detailoriented with a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to thrive in a fastpaced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Food handler's certification and knowledge of food safety practices are beneficial.
