Job description:


The GIZ programme "Scaling Digital Agriculture Innovations Through Start-ups" (SAIS) supports African start-ups from the agriculture and food sectors in their growth.

The objective of SAIS is to improve the investor readiness of selected start-ups and facilitate access to investors and business partners.

In doing so, the start-ups should reach a higher number of users with their innovations.

The users, in the end, should improve their income by using the digital innovations provided by the start-up (social impact).

SAIS is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and support by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other partners.


Your tasks:


  • Support the daytoday business of the programme in close cooperation with the programme lead as well as the programme team
  • Establish a network of business partners and investors, with special focus on venture capitalists, impact investors and business angels for the SAIS programme and the startups supported
  • Design and implement an awareness raising campaign for investors from other continents to bring the potentials of African startups to their attention
  • Design and conduct trainings and mentor startups on startup valuation, financial modelling, pitching and fund raising
  • Accompany startups during the fundraising process until deal closure including advice on appropriate investment vehicle, term sheets and negotiations with investors
  • Develop new opportunities for startup funding, including special purpose vehicles, in line with GIZ regulations and other regulations applicable and conduct due diligence on selected startups
  • Support the community work of SAIS bringing together different stakeholders like Alumni of the programme, mentors, experts, partners, investors, etc.
  • Further develop the approach of SAIS to partnerships and investor relations

Your profile:


  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance or Management, ideally with a focus in Corporate Finance
  • Several years of relevant professional experience, preferably gained abroad, in venture capital and innovative finance in established private sector companies
  • First working experience in working with startups in Africa, ideally in the agriculture and food sectors, including startup valuation and investor relations
  • Practical knowledge of stateoftheart tools of startup assessment, due diligence as well as company valuation
  • Extensive network of business partners, business angels and investors that can be tied to the SAIS programme
  • Strong analytical skills as well as strategic outlook on startups and venture capital to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Very good team player, flexible, very good advisory competences, networker and political acumen as well as highly committed
  • Business fluent in English, French and Arabic

Notes:

This job is suited to a full or a part-time position.

The willingness for frequent business trips is required.
