Endowed Division Head Position in Policy and Implementation Research for Cancer Prevention at the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute at University Medicine Mannheim (Ref-No

The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.


The division will be newly established with an endowment from the Hector Foundation II to the German Cancer Research Center.

Within the legal structure of the DKFZ, the division will be part of the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute at University Medicine Mannheim.

The division will be embedded in the research program "Cancer Prevention" of the DKFZ and the National Cancer Prevention Center (NCPC), which is currently being established in a partnership between the DKFZ and the German Cancer Aid.

Access to citizens participating in cancer prevention programs and trials will be provided through the NCPC and its planned national outreach program.

A number of research divisions and groups at the DKFZ in the broader field of cancer prevention, cancer epidemiology and outcome research, health economy, biomedical research on tumorigenesis and tumor progression, genomics, cancer related biomarkers as well as data sciences contribute to an outstanding research environment.

The DKFZ also provides the Cancer Information Service (KID) with national coverage and annually more than 10 million users.

The division head will also have access to the research networks of the DKFZ and the NCPC, such as the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT), the network of Comprehensive Cancer Centers of the German Cancer Aid and other research alliances at the national and international level.


The tenured position at the level of a DKFZ Division Head (German W3 score equivalent) will be provided with attractive core funding for personnel, consumables and investments.

In addition, access to competitive intramural funding programs of the DKFZ Hector Cancer Institute, the DKFZ and the Helmholtz Association will be provided.


Your profile:
Recruitment requirements include a PhD or equivalent in public health, epidemiology, psychology or another relevant field.

The applicant is expected to have high academic qualifications (habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications) with an international publication record, successful acquisition of third-party funding, evidence of effective and modern teaching and further education experience and a high level of academic commitment.
