Our Profile:

The Institute of Sustainability in Civil Engineering (INaB) deals with the topics of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The protection of our planet and its sustainable development are on the political agenda, but the implementation of these goals remains a major challenge in daily practice.

We are therefore involved in sustainability assessment and research to implement methods that lead to the measurement and improvement of sustainability performance in areas such as buildings, mobility, the food and têxtile industries.

In this way, we want to contribute to social change so that future societies and ecosystems can coexist resiliently and in harmony with each other.


Your Profile:


  • You have a university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in engineering and a completed PhD (or equivalent qualification).
  • You should also have several years of practical experience in the field of sustainability in the construction industry.
  • You have experience in international working groups involving public and private stakeholders e.g. the UN and EU umbrella programs.
  • You have acquired proven expertise in sustainability assessments across various sectors, based on the Life Cycle Thinking approach.
  • In particular, practical knowledge of Life cycle assessment, Social life cycle assessment, Life cycle thinking, environmental product declarations (EPD), sustainable building schemes (LEED, BREEAM etc.) is required.
  • Ideally, you are already familiar with the university landscape and have gained experience in teaching and in related pedagogic processes as well as in the acquisition and implementation of thirdparty funded projects. Experience in collaborations with developing countries, in particular African countries, is a plus.
  • You have the ability to work in an international team and support international exchange activities and students.
  • Besides research and academia related activities, you have experience in organizational and administrative tasks.
  • You show independence and personal responsibility in carrying out tasks with a focus on respecting deadlines.
  • You are willing to participate in the "Teaching at RWTH" program offered by Excellent Academic Teaching at the Center for Teaching and Learning Services (CLS).
  • A very good command of English and ideally other excellent written and spoken language skills, as well as aboveaverage resilience, even under increased stress, round off your profile.

Your Duties and Responsibilities:


Management of Research tasks:

  • Services for research projects: Coordination and management of research projects
  • Cosupervision of doctoral students and project staff
  • Independent acquisition of research and thirdparty funded projects
  • Collaboration and own preparation of publications

Teaching:

  • Teaching activities in lectures and seminars amounting to 8 SWS
  • Supervision of final theses
  • Development and supervision of new degree programs
  • Participation in examinations: Observing oral examinations
  • Organization of teaching (RWTHonline, Carpe Diem, RWTHmoodle)
  • Exam preparation
  • Advising students with questions and problems
  • General organization within the chair

What We Offer:

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and permanent.
This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 14 TV-L.
