Producers of electronic equipment are accountable for assuring the environmental compliance of the equipment we produce, yet the chemistry of the components we procure to make our equipment is not broadly available and not within our control.
With your organic chemistry background, help Keysight identify key groups of electronic components most at risk of future chemical restrictions in products.
Environmental legislation is increasingly targeting chemical substance restrictions in Articles; with increasing complexity following the evolution from specific substances to substance groups.
Substances that provide flame retardant and plasticiser properties (Halogenated substances, phthalates, chlorinated paraffins) have been identified as priority groups for regulation yet provide key societal benefits in the product safety of finished equipment.
Additionally, substances that are POPs, or within substance group PFAS are facing bans or reporting obligations internationally.
To help avoid regrettable substitution of components that utilize other harmful chemicals, investigate, and identify alternative substance groups that components may use to have a lower environmental impact; and so are less likely to become regulated in the future.
