Local Unit & Position Description:
The Department "Measurements Northern Europe" is located in Hamburg and Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog, Germany. The Department provides measurement services in diverse areas, mainly for the wind industry.

These measurement services comprise, among others:

loads, the power curve of a specific turbine, diverse services involving LiDAR technology including equipment verification, classification, wind resource and assessment, acoustic measurements and assessments as well as the measurement of electric characteristics for grid code compliance.

The Department currently consists of around 50 employees spread over three Sections.


The main responsibilities of the Student Assistant Data Science will be to support our Senior Data Science Expert in implementing the digitalisation and optimisation of our current processes as well as developing new services / new ways of delivering current services.

The Student Assistant Data Science is expected to help create value in renewable energy with digital tools.

This shall be achieved by innovating and disrupting the industry with new solutions to breakthrough market opportunities while leveraging the potential of data analytics.


Some of your tasks will include:

  • Assisting in data collection, conducting data cleaning and preprocessing tasks to prepare datasets for analysis
  • Developing and testing data models and algorithms under the guidance of a senior data scientist
  • Visualizing data through graphs, charts, and other means to help identify patterns and trends
  • Support the development and implementation of webbased dashboards as well as an efficient and optimized tool for report generation
  • Perform software development tasks as agreed with the senior data scientist
  • Participating in team meetings and discussions to provide input and feedback on project progress and direction

Position Qualifications:

  • Enrolled student within the technical field (e.g. Computer Science) with a good focus on digitalization
  • Good background in programming is required (Python, Matlab, c#, etc.)
  • Previous experience in software development/big data is beneficial
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Azure is beneficial
  • Fluent English language skills (both written and spoken)
  • Fluent German language skills would be an advantage, but it is not a prerequisite
