The professorship "Climate Responsive Building" is dedicated to the analysis, simulation and design of ecologically sustainable, climate-responsive buildings as well as the growing importance of building materials within this context.

The focus is on the physical properties of buildings and building components as well as on the spatial consequences of ecological and physical parameters in architectural and urban design projects.


The professorship represents the topics:
Climate responsive building, building materials and building physics.

The position is integrated into the bachelor's and master's degree program in architecture of the Department of Building and Design at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences.


  • We are looking for an individual with a university degree completed e.g. in the fields of architecture, natural sciences, environmental or civil engineering.
  • Planning experience in ambitious building construction projects, experience in the conception of ecologically sustainable buildings and building ensembles as well as technical and methodological competencies in the fields of building physics and building material science are required.
  • Knowledge in uptodate digital planning and simulation methods is desirable.
  • Interdisciplinary collaborations (e.g. in the context of research projects) are expected (concerning new architecture as well as transformation of existing buildings).
  • The person sought should have a strong professional network (academia, public and private sector), proven by successful cooperation.
  • Scientific (research) aptitude is to be demonstrated by a qualified doctorate and/or by special qualification for outstanding artistic work and evidence of highranking, scientific or artistic publications with international visibility.


We expect the applicant to integrate themselves well into the existing team both professionally and personally, to get involved in the academic self-administration of our university and to enjoy imparting knowledge from their own professional experience to the students.


The university has a large number of collaborations with universities and research institutions such as Max Planck Institutes and Fraunhofer Institutes as well as companies.

Intensifying and expanding these collaborations is highly desired.

Active participation in the university's research activities is desired. In this context, we strive to increase third-party funding and the number of cooperative doctorates.


We advocate a supervision concept that requires a high level of presence of the teaching staff at the university campus.

German language skills (at least level C1) and English language skills are required. Teaching language ist mainly German.


The hiring requirements for professors are regulated in Sec 49 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.

This full-time position is available from at the Kaiserslautern campus of Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences at the Department Building and Design in full time (100%).
