Scientist - Target Identification/Validation Expert Research Immuno-Oncology (M/F/d)


The Scientist - Target Identification/Validation Expert Research Immuno-Oncology (M/F/d) develops and utilizes strategies for the identification of potential new drug target molecules to initiate projects for novel cancer therapeutics development with a focus on Immuno-Oncological approaches.

As a pre-D1 expert, at least junior scientist, duties include design and execute immunological and cancer-related pre-clinical in vitro/ex vivo/ in vivo models for validating novel biology and pathways.


YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead target identification initiatives and provide biological guidance and deep diseaseunderstanding with expertise in cancer and Immunology for data mining approaches utilizing scientific creativity, independent and outofthebox thinking
  • Utilize stateof the art data sources for target/ pathway identification as Real-Word data, literature databases and gene expression data (RNA seq, Single Cell seq, Exon seq, CITE seq, spatial transcriptomics) with the help of Bayer's bioinformatics department
  • Design and execute preclinical strategies to validate the biology of novel drug targets as starting points for new drug discovery programs, as well as to serve as project lead for preclinical target validation projects
  • Independently establish and conduct immune cells assays, and cancerrelated models in vitro/ex vivo/in vivo to validate novel target / pathways for relevance in the human disease
  • Follow continuously scientific developments in the field, interpret and effectively communicate scientific findings and project ́s progress in department and community meetings
  • Work and collaborate in a team with biologists, bioinformaticians and (bio)chemists across Bayer ́s pharmaceutical division as well as with external CRO and academic partners, with a specific focus on collaboration with Joint Immunotherapy Laboratory at the DKFZ (Heidelberg)
  • Work with geneticallymodified, radioactively labelled and infectious material, as well as animal experiments and comply to legal requirements and regulations (as applicable: Gentechnik, Biostoffverordnung, Infektionsschutzgesetz, Tierversuchserlaubnis)

WHO YOU ARE

  • PhD in Immunology or Biology or in related fields, MD-PhD in Immunology is a plus
  • Expert knowledge in Cancer Biology, Immuno-Oncology and Immunology
  • Prior working experience in a PostDoc position in the field of Immunology or Immuno-Oncology as well as first experiences in a pharmaceutical company or biotech in the field of Immuno-Oncology
  • Expertise, practical knowledge and track record (scientific publication) of bioinformatic data mining approaches for biology and disease understanding
  • Capability to generate scientific and therapeutic hypotheses and experimentally validate or devalidate them utilizing immunology / diseaserelated assays
  • Experience in a variety of techniques of cellular and molecular biology, flow cytometry and experience with in human multicellular in vitro / ex vivo and mouse in vivo models
  • Creative and flexible thinking, with excellent organizational skills including a sense of responsibility and urgency and ability to adapt to a dynamic research environment and the ability to work in teams as well as independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills in English
