For the Institute of Comparative Molecular Endocrinology we are looking for a

Postdoc for Macrophage-Fibroblast-Satellite Cell Cross-Talk during Muscle Homeostasis (M/F/d)

Ulm University with its more than 10,000 students offers varied professional tasks in a highly innovative research, teaching and work environment, at the same time facilitating the reconciliation of work and family in many ways.

As a rule, full-time positions can be split.

Severely disabled applicants with equal aptitude will be given preferential
consideration.

Your profile:

  • You are an ambitious and dynamic research personality and have a Doctoral degree in the life sciences.
  • You have a background or ambitions in transgenic animal research, metabolic physiology, molecular biology, fluorescence microscopy or a quantitative description of life processes.
  • You have experience with experimental work in the lab, but also affinities to data analysis.
  • You have team spirit and want to work at the interface of interdisciplinary research teams.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will be involved in the project funded by DFG and

ANR:

Corticosat:
Glucocorticoid-coordinated regulation of satellite cells and their microenvironment in skeletal muscle. Hormonal control of regeneration is still ill-understood but is pivotal to improve therapeutic strategies for tissue repair.

In an international team composed of members from the Tuckermann Lab, Ulm and the Metzger lab, Illkich, France, you will characterize the cross-talk between muscle satellite cells and their stromal and immunological micro-environment in response to glucocorticoids, major stress hormones and anti-inflammatory agents.

Glucocorticoids have multiple roles on the muscle system composed of muscle fibers, satellite cells, fibro adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) and myeloid cells, including macrophages.

In conditional glucocorticoid receptor (GR) knockout mouse models you will characterize the molecular consequences of loss of GR during the muscle healing response, the effects on fibro adipogenic progenitors and macrophages and responses of satellite cells during a muscle healing response.

  • You will use cutting edge technologies involving single cell RNASeq, ChIP-Seq, flow cytometry, elegant coculture models, determine gene expression and metabolic profiles.
  • Your work will uncover favorable and adverse mechanisms of glucocorticoid receptor function that provide strategies for a better muscle healing during stress responses.
  • The work will benefit from a lively interaction of both laboratories with lab rotations between Illikirch close to Strassbourg and Ulm.
