The Climate-Sensitive Infectious Diseases Lab at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) offers a position as:

Student research assistant:
Climate data analyst (f/m/d)

Support one or several of the ongoing projects:

Data extraction from existing databases
Cleaning and preparing data for analysis
Perform spatiotemporal modeling
Undertake data visualization
Contribution to scientific publications (drafting, preparing figures, tables, references)
Work closely with our team of interdisciplinary researchers to support data analysis and visualizaiton for scientific publications

Requirements:

Interest in research questions in the areas of data climate science, climate change, epidemiology and infectious diseases
Good written and oral English language skills
Familiarity with command line Unix/Linux to analyse and visualise large climate/geospatial datasets, preferably stored in NetCDF format
Basic knowledge or familiarity with statistical methodologies and environments like R and/or Jupyter Notebooks and with scientific geophysical toolkits (such as CDO) and willingness to learn under supervision
Fluency in Python and/or R is a plus
Experience in data visualization and reporting tools is a plus
Experience in data science and/or machine learning is a plus
