ABOUT THE ROLE


The
Transparency International Secretariat is currently seeking a
Research Associate (M/F/d) to join the Research and Knowledge Team to support the implementation of the _Rallying Efforts to Accelerate Progress (REAP)_ project.


The _Rallying Efforts to Accelerate Progress (REAP) - Africa Inequalities Initiative_ aims at generating greater evidence on the impact of illicit financial flows and tax evasion and avoidance across the region; identifying key destination countries where international cooperation should be strengthened; exposing inadequacies in legal and institutional frameworks and raising awareness of citizens and the private sector on the impact of illicit financial flows and tax abuse, amongst others.


The
Research Associate will help support research activities aimed at generating evidence, in partnership with local organisations, on the extent, types and impact of illicit financial flows, tax evasion and tax avoidance in Africa and highlighting innovative tools and approaches to tackle them.

As part of this agenda, the Research Associate will keep informed of relevant political and social events in the subregion, provide research and administrative assistance to TI local chapters involved in the project (11 countries, 7 Chapters) and contribute to generate content and evidence, in partnership with local partners, on the extent, types and impact of illicit financial flows, tax evasion and tax avoidance in Africa and highlighting innovative tools and approaches to tackle them.


OVERVIEW OF KEY DIMENSIONS

Role Purpose:

Research and administrative assistance to support the implementation of TI's REAP Project, with a focus on supporting research activities on illicit financial flows, tax evasion and tax avoidance in Africa to meet the objectives of the REAP project.

PF1 salary band, starting at €35,000 p.a. for full-time

Contract Duration: 30 March 2024.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE
Based in the Research and Knowledge Team and reporting to the Head of Research and Knowledge, the Research Associate will:

  • Support the day-to-day implementation of the research activities of the _Rallying Efforts to Accelerate Progress (_REAP)_ Project, including supporting the information flow between the Research and Knowledge Team and other relevant internal teams (e.g. Policy and Advocacy, Global Movement, Fundraising, Communications, Technology), ensuring process integrity and effective cross-team collaboration and REAP project partners
  • Support the Research and Knowledge Team on the delivery of specific REAP related products (such as e.g. knowledge generation and exchanges, peer to peer capacity building activities, knowledge dissemination) through background research, quantitative/qualitative data analysis, fact checking, editing, benchmarking, etc.
  • Respond to requests for information on corrupt money flows, researching in order to provide sufficient responses or escalating where needed
  • Support the communication with and coordination of national chapters and partner organisations
  • Support in the organisation of meetings and events (e.g. knowledge sharing and capacity building events)
  • Provide input into reports, publications, communications materials, web content, etc. on corrupt money flows
  • Contribute to the development of highquality work deliverables ensuring they meet quality standards and proactively seek input from relevant substantive internal experts, where necessary
  • Contribute to the overall functioning of the Research and Knowledge Team by providing proactive and ad hoc support where necessary

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • University degree in a relevant field of the social sciences, such as political science, sociology, economics, public administration or related, with an academic emphasis on research
  • 2+ years of relevant experience preferably with an International NGO or International Organisation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or interest in good governance and corruption related issues and advocacy, with a particular focus on illicit financial flows a strong advantage
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with solid writing, editing and communication skills
  • Experience with donor funded projects in the civil society field an advantage
  • Good understanding of budget/financial management processes (working in collaboration with Project Accountants)
  • Experience with quality assurance and risk management processes
  • Experience in organising events with diverse international partners
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to effectively manage priorities in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effecti
