Part-time position with half the working hours of a full-time employee.

The position is limited until as part of the project "Transfer and Demonstration of Key Technologies for Ecological Restoration of Industrial Waste Land in a Typical Sino-German City" in accordance with the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz.

The working group Economy of Urban and Regional Development deals with the close interactions between spatial and economic development.

It deals with the spatial organization of economic processes, their global references and the different local manifestations of economic structural change as well as the change towards sustainable urban and regional development.


We are looking for a thematic reinforcement of the working group for the research area (Sustainable spatial development), with a special focus on sustainability-orientated reuse strategies in old industrial regions in Germany and their transferability to Chinese case studies.


Tasks:


  • Assisting research as part of the project
  • Analysing spatial case studies in Germany with a mixedmethod approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Identifying key factors for sustainable transformations in old industrialised areas
  • Transfer of the key factors to case studies in China

Requirements:


  • Academic university degree (usually Master or Diploma) in urban and regional planning, spatial planning, or comparable study programs in China and/or Germany with at least good results
  • Very good knowledge of methods for qualitative comparative analyses, e.g. QCA, proven by methodological parts in submitted publications in first authorship
  • Confident command of Chinese and English, good knowledge of German

Advantageous:


  • Good knowledge of the German and Chinese spatial planning systems, proven e.g. by university degrees in relevant spatial planning programmes in both countries
  • Experience in scientific publication activities
  • Good knowledge of graphics and word processing programmes (MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Good knowledge of analysing spatial data with geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Good knowledge of statistical data analysis (e.g. with SPSS or R)
  • Good knowledge of qualitative data analysis (e.g. with MaxQDA)
  • Thorough and independent working methods
  • A high degree of teamwork and communication skills, as well as selfmanagement and goalorientation
