Senior Trade Compliance Specialist (M/F/d)

Position Summary


The Trade Compliance Specialist partners with the business to identify opportunities for improvement in operations and processes that will result in increased efficiency and productivity and profitability.

The Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for using a broad range of technologies, analytical techniques and methodologies to retrieve and analyze data to provide predictive insights and support business decision making.

The Trade Compliance Specialist reports into the EMEA Regional Trade Compliance Manager.


Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Supports the coordination of import/export shipments with the Corporate Logistics, Compliance departments and customs brokers.
  • Has expertise in multiple areas of import and export laws such as HTS Classification, Country of Origin, Free Trade Agreements, Customs Valuation.
  • Manages Global Trade Services (GTS) module of SAP, performs SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) export compliance screening, set up restrictions in SAP GTS for regulatory concerns, and manage shipments with export restrictions.
  • Maintains and assists with implementation of Bio-Rad's export and import compliance procedures and work instructions.
  • Administers import/export recordkeeping requirements.
  • Supports projects focused on improving business operations and processes.
  • Partners on initiatives to support the creation of new reports, KPIs metrics and dashboards based on business needs.
  • Acts as a liaison between endusers, IT and other cross functional teams and professionals in the analysis, design, configuration, testing and maintenance of systems to ensure optimal operational performance in SAP GTS and ATLAS.
  • Uses data analysis/modeling to create new reports; troubleshoots and modifies existing reports including target KPIs, commodity indices, cost savings opportunities, etc.
  • Troubleshoots, reports on and tests new system/tool functionality.
  • Provides necessary compliance training to operational personnel.
  • Is responsible for all compliance aspects of the business unit within a single country, and for taking corrective action when there are issues with noncompliance.

Key Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree or equivalent in International Business, Business Administration, Business Information or commercial education, preferably as a forwarding agent or equivalent with relevant professional experience in the field of customs.
  • Extensive professional experience in a dynamic Global Trade environment.
  • Experience working in biopharma, medical, chemical or life science related companies.
  • Knowledge of trade compliance regulations in more than one country.
  • Expert knowledge about how to qualify items under various Free Trade agreements, Customs Reconciliation & Duty Reductions Programs.
  • Basic knowledge of EU Customs Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Import/Export regulations (Export control, ATLAS, NCTS).
  • Advanced quantitative skills with proficiency in data analysis (SAP/MS Access) modeling (MS Excel, PowerBI) and presenting (MS PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in English and German; other languages welcome.
  • Ability to work on projects and tasks with significant complexity that are both local and regional in scope and impact.
  • Ability to exercises significant judgement with latitude to propose and implement improvements in the Trade Compliance policies and processes.
  • Ability to think analytically and work independently in a complex environment; use good sense of judgement regarding when to seek direction or advice.
  • Customer oriented with a service mentality.
  • Flexibility to travel.
