We use an agile framework to foster engagement with team members who are distributed across four locations in three countries.

At JetBrains, Technical Writers are part of the product teams.

Our documentation process is very open - technical writers communicate directly with developers and QA engineers to get all of the required technical information.

There are no intermediaries or long technical specifications involved.

They also work closely together with the product marketing managers and support engineers to analyze user feedback and define and prioritize tasks.

To author the documentation, we use one of JetBrains' most popular products - IntelliJ IDEA. The documentation is written in an XML schema that has been adapted to suit our needs. All source code is under Git version control.
