The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.

To support our team of three, we are looking for a


Financial Accountant
as of April 1st. 2023.


The position has a scope of 30 to 40 hours per week with free arrangement of the weekly working hours.

The contract is initially limited for two years; we are jointly striving for a de-restriction in the second year of the contract.


In addition to the traditional activities in financial accounting, you will have the opportunity to get to know the special features of a university, acquire new knowledge and actively participate in projects.


Your tasks:

  • Processing and posting of incoming invoices, travel expense reports
- cash registers and banks

  • Reconciliation within the accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger accounting departments
  • Review and evaluation of business transactions and responsibility for fixed assets
  • Participation in the processes of payment transactions
  • Supporting work in the area of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Responsibility for master data maintenance and document storage

Your profile:

  • Completed commercial training, ideally further training as a financial accountant
  • Several years of professional experience in accounting is required
  • Confident handling of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and MS-Office
  • Ideally good knowledge of German sales tax, nonprofit and commercial law
  • Independent, structured and careful way of working
  • Very good knowledge of German and good knowledge of English, both written and spoken
  • Good communication skills and enjoy working within a team
