- and Geosciences of Technical University of Darmstadt invites applicants for a faculty position at the Institute of Applied Geosciences (IAG) as


Assistant Professorship W2 Tenure Track for Modelling of Geosystems:
initially limited to six years.

The Institute of Applied Geosciences is focusing on the research topics water - energy - environment.

We are looking for a dedicated early career scientist with an outstanding research profile that fits into and strengthens the development of the Institute, especially related to the field of geoenergies.


The use of of subsurface geosystems for energy or storage solutions requires an improved process and system understanding of the geological subsurface.

Research interests should therefore be focused on the process-based modeling of such geosystems.

The following research fields are of special interest:
- modeling of thermal-hydraulic-mechanical-chemical-coupled processes (THM-C)
- development of numerical methods in the field of reservoir modeling
- use of artificial intelligence in geoscience

As part of the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main metropolitan region, TU Darmstadt and its surroundings are characterized by living internationality. The core element of this is a cosmopolitan climate with functional multilingualism at our university. Therefore, very good English and - after three years at the latest - good German language skills are expected.

The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to - 70 HessHG.

Accordingly, the duration of the scientific activity during and after the doctorate should generally not exceed nine years or the activity after the doctorate should not exceed four years.

This maximum duration may be extended if necessary in the case of children under the legal requirements of - 70 HessHG.

Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than the TU Darmstadt or have worked scientifically outside of TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate.

Research and teaching performance during this time will be considered in the tenure review process. Upon successful completion of the tenure review, the position immediate becomes a tenured W2 professorship. For further information, please see the tenure guidelines of TU Darmstadt.

The assistant professorship is initially limited to six years. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. A comparable employment relationship is possible.
