The Sustainability Office is seeking a Sustainability Content Specialist, Working Student to support the communication and content strategy around sustainability at Heidelberg Materials.

The Sustainability Office is responsible for setting a global, companywide vision and strategy to advance sustainability.

We are an international, high-visibility team (our leader is a member of the Managing Board), and place innovation, vision, and excellence in execution at the core of what we do.

Sustainability-focused content and storytelling are key to our success in realizing our 2030 sustainability commitments and advancing the sustainability agenda in a critical industry.


The Sustainability Content Specialist, Working Student role is globally focused, and you will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues around the world to tell the amazing stories of sustainability activities, initiatives, and success.

Your output will be visible and excitedly consumed across and up and down the organization.


Sustainability topics include reducing CO2, biodiversity, circularity, sustainable water management, science-based targets, sustainable development goals, sustainable supply chains, and cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing and carbon capture.

The position is located in Heidelberg, Germany. The position can be hybrid, or also virtual, with occasional visits to Heidelberg.


Your next challenge:


  • Write and edit sustainability stories and blog articles for use across multiple internal and external channels
  • Brainstorm and realize innovative and creative ways of using content (e.g. create a photo essay on biodiversity and how active quarries can provide critical habitat for endangered species or migratory birds)
  • Post/publish content to pertinent channels (e.g. Yammer, Sharepoint, MS Teams), and share with colleagues

Your profile:


  • Be able to boil down longer messages into brief, succinct text
  • Possess outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Be familiar with content style guides and standards; understand how to write for digital channels such as social media
  • Be highly skilled in PPT, as well as MS Office in general (Sharepoint skills are a plus)
  • Native English, or exceptionally fluent written and spoken English; German is a plus, but not required
  • Studies in journalism/English, and/or sustainability/construction/civil engineering
  • Basic video editing skills are a plus
  • Passion for and basic familiarity with sustainability
  • Knowledge of building industry (architecture, engineering, construction, building materials, and cement and concrete) a plus, but not required
