The position requires
- a university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in civil or environmental engineering with a specialization in transport and spatial planning, transport engineering, computer science, mathematics, spatial planning, geography, statistics or related fields.

Ideally good knowledge and practical experience in the use of statistical software (e.g. R, SPSS, STATA), work with spatial data (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS) or similar programming experience

- the willingness to familiarize yourself with new topics, in particular geodata, statistical modeling, survey design, sampling and databases
- good knowledge and experience in the use of standard PC software (e.g. MS Office)
- planning and organizational skills, initiative, creativity and flexibility in dealing with complex tasks
- a high level of willingness to gain your own scientific qualifications
- strong communication skills and a willingness to collaborate across disciplines
- the ability to formulate precisely and comprehensibly (verbally and in writing) in German or English
- good written and spoken German language skills or a willingness to learn German

Your Duties and Responsibilities:

We offer you the opportunity to make an important contribution to transport statistical methods and transport modeling by working on research projects.

You will be involved in the further development of the basis for political and planning decisions for a sustainable transportation system.

Your research tasks will include the collection, processing and synthesis of various data sources and the expansion of modeling methods using statistical or AI-based approaches.

A willingness to publish scientifically and to take on teaching duties is a prerequisite.

What We Offer:

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term for a fixed term of two years.

Afterwards, it is intended to extend the contract to a total of five years.

The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).

This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
