Duties:


  • Conduct special studies or investigations related to occupational health problems.
  • Conduct preliminary walkthrough surveys accompanied by safety personnel to identify potential hazards.
  • Direct onsite surveys and investigations in a wide variety of industrial and administrative Facilities to determine nature and severity of hazards present.
  • Conduct complete evaluations of work operations involving potential hazardous environmental conditions.
  • Complete the Health Hazard Inventory form using the information collected during walkthrough surveys and evaluations.
  • Brief operational and safety supervisory personnel to outline preliminary findings and possible means of correcting problems.
  • Accumulate information and material required for laboratory analysis by using standard chemical and physical sampling techniques and procedures.
  • Evaluate chemical health hazards resulting from inhalation of vapors, fumes, or skin contact.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in the DoD Instruction
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires you to obtain a valid US Army in Europe (USAREUR) Driver's License. You must be in possession of a valid state driver's license in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles AND pass a written exam.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires the completion of a preemployment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 25 % of the time away from your permanent duty station.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Incumbent must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.

Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist:

Degree: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

  • A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Certification: A certificate from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene


Evaluation of Education:

All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university.

For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum.- Such work must have involved experience in all of the following areas: the acquisition of quantitative and qualitative data, and the measurement of exposures for a variety of chemical, physical, and biological stresses; the analysis of the data acquired and the prediction of probable effects of exposures on the health and well-being of workers; and the selection and recommendation of appropriate controls, including management, medical, engineering, education or training, and personal protective equipment.


In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
