The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.

We are looking for a


Research Associate - Political Innovation (gn)
part-time (20 hours per week).

The contract shall commence as soon as possible and limited until 31 December 2023.


Your tasks:

  • Main tasks: observations in the field, independent interviews, manage data collection and transcripts
  • Additional tasks: develop research case study, help developing teaching material, support grant writing

Your profile:

  • Master or advanced study state in social science (preferably with background in political science, sociology and/or organizational studies)
  • Previous exposure to social movement and social innovation literature is welcome
  • Qualitative research skills are required (both in terms of collecting and analyzing data). Quantitive research skills are welcome
  • Fluency in German and English, and preferably another language
  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Excellent social skills and ability to work in a team
