German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies GmbH (DZHW) is a non-university,
non-profit research institute funded by the German federal and state governments with its headquarter in
Hanover and locations in Berlin and Leipzig. The institute, which consists of around 250 employees, is a
national and international centre of excellence for higher education and science research. The scientific
departments of DZHW conduct knowledge

Doctoral Position (M/F/d, E 13 TVöD Bund 75%)


The position is offered for a period of 3 years (with the possibility of an extension for another 3 years).

The
employment takes place according to the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz.


Your tasks You support the professorship in research in the field of computational survey and social science and do

your PhD on a jointly agreed topic in this field.

  • You work collaboratively and independently on scientific publications (primarily in English) and present
research results at national and international conferences.

  • You train with support by the professorship in computing, machine learning, natural language pro
- cessing, and artificial intelligence.

  • You support the professorship in administrative and organizational tasks (e.g., online presence/social me
- dia and supervision of student assistants).

  • You contribute your research expertise to the departments of the DZHW and the Faculty of Philosophy at
the Leibniz University Hanover.

Your profile Excellent university degree (Master, Magister, or Diploma) in the field of behavioral or social sciences (e.g.,

political science, psychology, social sciences, sociology, or survey methodology).

  • Experience in working with and analyzing survey data (e.g., numeric or alphanumeric) and digital data (e.g.,
para, sensor, or voice data).

  • Competent knowledge of applied statistics and statistical software (e.g., R or Python).
  • Knowledge in the area of survey software (e.g., oTree or Unipark/Questback).
  • Basic knowledge in the area of at least one script or programming language (e.g., HTML or JavaScript).
  • Clear, effective, and fluent English communication skills (spoken and written; German is an asset).
  • Willing to train in computing, machine learning, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence.
  • Willing to conduct a research stay outside Germany.
