At the heart of TU Hamburg's research, teaching and transfer of technology is the guiding principle of developing technology for people.

The TU Hamburg sees itself in this context as a family-friendly and sustainable university with high performance and quality standards that strives for excellence in all its research fields.

Interdisciplinarity, innovation, regionality and internationality are binding principles in our actions.

With currently around 7,500 students, 110 professors and 1,600 employees, the TU Hamburg is characterised by short decision-making processes and close cooperation between the board, the institutes, the deans of studies, the research areas and the administration.

We identify ourselves with a modern leadership culture and cultivate appreciative interaction.

A major key to success in facing climate change and creating more resilient supply chains is the transformation of feedstocks from fossil resources to renewable raw materials.

Led by Hamburg University of Technology, the DFG funded Collaborative Research Center 1615 "SMART Reactors" is developing processes and reactors that respond flexibly to the fluctuating properties of renewable raw materials, thus enabling self-adapting, more resilient process engineering.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to study the electrowetting of solid catalysts as external control mechanism by using advanced X-ray analytical tools at the Hamburg based synchrotron DESY and other synchrotron sources worldwide.

YOUR TASKS

  • Harness advanced Xray analytical tools such as small angle scattering (SAXS), Xray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), Xray fluorescence (XRF) and Xray microscopy, to study gas/liquid/solid interfaces
  • Exploit, develop, and improve sample environments for in situ / operando experiments
  • Prepare research proposals, perform experiments at synchrotron radiation sources worldwide together with the project partners
  • Perform efficient data analysis from multimodal Xray experiments, particularly using synchrotron radiation
  • Develop excellent teamwork and communication skills, and show willingness to work in an interdisciplinary and diverse research environment
  • Participate in the activities of the SMART Reactors network, including regular project meetings with the CRC consortium, presentation of results, and active engagement/collaboration within the CRC

YOUR PROFILE

  • Deep knowledge of Xray analytical methods. Xray microscopy and/or scattering, including experimental skills and/ data analysis, are particularly valuable. Experience with any other Xray spectroscopic, diffraction, or imaging characterisation tools is an advantage
  • Experience with programming languages or software environments (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Willingness to support collaboration partners and group colleagues during synchrotron measurement campaigns
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in an international and multidisciplinary team with English as working language. Knowledge of German is an advantage

OUR OFFER

  • Opportunity for firstrate research at stateoftheart research facilities
  • Involvement in an interdisciplinary, and highly motivated team
  • Research topic in a socially highly relevant area
  • Flexible and familyfriendly working conditions, 30 days of vacation per year
We particularly encourage women to apply. Due to their underrepresentation, they will be given priority incases of equal suitability, qualifications and professional performance.
