Professor of Cellular Optomechanics (open rank)
We seek to appoint a leading expert with an internationally visible profile in research and teaching.

The professor will investigate the physical properties of cells (in particular immune cells) and/or tissues that allow them to fulfil their biological functions.

The professor is expected to develop and use tools for analysing the biophysical properties of cells in order to gain a better understanding of medically relevant processes such as inflammatory or malignant diseases, and in the hope of being able to treat such diseases more effectively in future.

Their tasks will include conducting research and teaching as well as establishing a working group at the Deutsches Zentrum Immuntherapie (DZI) (in the new research building Center for Immunotherapy, Biophysics and Digital Medicine).

The professorship entails secondary membership of the Faculty of Sciences at FAU and should encourage interaction between the Faculties of Medicine and Sciences at FAU as well as with the Max-Planck-Zentrum für Physik und Medizin.

FAU offers an outstandingly productive research environment as well as a passionate and multi-disciplinary scholarly community within a vibrant institutional network.

FAU offers career development and an attractive initial package. Based on international standards and transparent performance agreements, FAU ensures a fair tenure-track evaluation process.

In its pursuit of academic excellence, FAU is committed to equality of opportunity and to a proactive and inclusive approach, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture and values diversity.

FAU is a family-friendly employer and responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
