What to Expect

  • The Cell Development team is responsible for validating the battery cells produced at the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, qualifying second source supplier parts, and developing the next generation of battery cells. The Mechanical Design Interns support the Mechanical Design team. Tasks range from tolerance stack analysis for components that are produced more than 500 million parts per year, FEM/CFD simulation of individual components as well as the battery cell system and optimizing tolerances and yield both at suppliers as well in our production. Our interns work together with the validation, quality, and production teams to introduce the new designs into production. At Tesla scope and complexity of your assignments are limited by your aptitude not seniority or title.
What You'll Do

  • Learn to work in crossdiscipline to use first principal approach for root cause analysis and countermeasure proposal to achieve battery cell production output.
  • Support on designing and validation of a new design of a battery cell component with a yearly production rate of more than 500 million parts.
  • Learn about rapid prototyping, tolerance stack analysis and design for manufacturability of battery cell components.
  • Learn to plan, execute and evaluate test legs for design iterations of battery cell components.
  • Support with setup of lean laboratory organization with a ticketing system for test planning.
