Beschreibung

As a research assistant you will be responsible for the coordination and technical conduction of a 3-year research project, aimed at the experimental investigation of the aerodynamic performance of advanced future compressor stages, support-ed by numerical modelling and simulations of performance-enhancing design features.

In this research project you will be able to experience hands-on testing of a high-speed and engine-representative compressor further increases of the efficiency and stability margin.

The project is highly innovative, will generate fundamental knowledge about the handling and capturing of flow behavior in multistage compressors.

The collaborative frame with a prestigious industry partner will give insight to future technology requirements.

About Us

The Technical University of Munich offers a wide spectrum of teaching and research with access to excellent IT and facilities in an innovative environment.

The Institute of Turbomachinery and Flight Propulsion is pursuing research in technologies of future aero engine architectures for the next generation of aircraft.

In this context, the development of turbomachinery and the integration of novel components enhancing the thermodynamic cycle take a central role, focused on environmental awareness and reduction of fossil fuel consumption.

The institute follows these goals in different research frameworks and collaborative research with industry partners.

Requirements Profile

  • Excellent grade degree from a university with focus on aerospace, physics or related fields
  • Very good and fundamental knowledge in the areas of fluid mechanics and aerothermal turbomachinery
  • High fascination for technical/scientific problems of numerical and experimental research
  • Ability to approach work in an analytical, imaginative and structured way, and to work independently in research projects
  • Good team player and inclination towards acting in networks
  • Very good communication skills and ability to express yourself in spoken and written German and English language
  • Proficient use of common programming languages, MSoffice, data storages and image processing
  • Ability to support the institute's teaching in tutorials and seminars
  • Enjoyment of being initiative and liaising with people in the work place
  • Will to achieve the PhD degree (Promotion)

The project will be carried out at the Institute of Turbomachinery and Flight Propulsion, bearing the following tasks:

  • Preparation of the test facility for integration of the test compressor module, including system checks and commissioning.
  • Supporting the experimental investigations carried out on the research compressor by an integrated team of LTF and an industry partner.
  • Numerical modelling compressor stages and carry out simulation of methods to enhance aerodynamic performance using flow control methods on stator guide vanes and their shroud arrangement.
We Offer

You will be a part of an international working environment with a strong focus on innovation in the field of turbomachinery and flight propulsion.

The job offers the opportunity to write a dissertation and obtain the PhD degree.
