Visiting Scientist:
Development of next-generation genome editing tools (f/m//d)


Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Engineer and characterize novel gene editing systems for use in gene therapy at the Genomic Medicine group of Bayer's R&D division in Wuppertal, Germany.
  • Implement and perform miniaturized highthroughput assays for characterization of programmable DNAmodifying enzymes, including bacterial, cellbiological and biochemical assays
  • Evaluate activity of various genome editing systems in mammalian cell lines
  • Collaborate on cutting edge research in a dynamic genome editing team from diverse life science backgrounds

Who you are

  • PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or similar, with an excellent track record of productivity.
  • Good understanding of various DNAmodifying enzymes (nucleases and others) and expertise in assay development in this area
  • Handson experience with nextgenerationsequencingbased assays
  • Experience with modern protein engineering methods (e.g., deep mutational scanning, domain integrations, circular permutations), a good understanding of protein structure, and previous expertise with cell culture procedures are a plus
  • Familiarity with standard bioinformatic tools (Python/R/commandline based)
  • Track record of working independently as part of a multidisciplinary team, with excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, capacity for analytical thinking and creativity, as well as enthusiasm for handson bench work
  • Full proficiency in the English language, both written and spoken. Basic German language skills (or willingness to acquire those) are a plus
