Main tasks:

***The Mildred Scheel Cancer Career Center (MSNZ) pursues the goal of strengthening the next generation of scientists in oncology as well as to create transparent and attractive career perspectives in translational cancer research.


Our Medical Scientist funding line is dedicated to promoting the networking of scientists and scientific exchange with clinical, industrial and scientific partners by cooperation and joint project funding in the Hamburg metropolitan region.

The position of a Medical Scientist (Postdoc) will be funded for an initial period of up to two years. This position can also be filled on a part-time basis.

  • Participation in structured and innovative oncological and multidisciplinary teaching and advanced training, financial support for individual training and congress travel
  • Integration into an existing strong network of funded physicians and scientists in the center, possbility to actively shape our training program and community
  • Individual support in the establishment and realization of own career goals, and career support measures (e.g. individual coaching and leadership training, internal and external networking within the framework of our existing extensive network of scientists and researching physicians, support in obtaining further funding).
  • Financial support for consumables within the proposed project in the amount of 5.000 EUR per year
  • Individual support in reconciling work and family life through our Cooperation partners (e.g. "Notmütterdienst")

Your Profile:

***- Completed scientific university studies in biology, chemistry, physics, medical physics, biostatistics, biometrics or medicine (with completed PhD program).

  • Completed experimental PhD thesis
  • Experience in writing publications and/or grant proposals
  • High commitment to basic oncology research, patientoriented clinical research or health services research
  • Good command of English
  • Commitment, independence and coordination skills, ability to work in a team
  • Willingness for selfreflection and personal development

Prerequisite for employment:

A project proposal for an innovative research project at the UKE in cooperation with at least one external clinical, industrial or scientific partner from the Hamburg metropolitan region for a cooperative project involving two institutions/clinics of the University Cancer Center Hamburg (UKE-internal).
