in the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) "".

A major key to success in facing climate change and creating more resilient supply chains is the transformation of feedstocks from fossil resources to renewable raw materials.

Led by the Hamburg University of Technology, the CRC 1615 is developing processes and reactors that respond flexibly to the fluctuating properties of renewable raw materials, thus enabling self-adapting, more resilient process engineering

Project C01:

Integration of components into adaptive geometries
Within this project, self-adaptive structures that control reactions based on the reactor conditions are investigated.
In the beginning, suitable unit cells and materials for selected reactions are investigated, so that structures for high heat
- and mass transport can be designed. With this, self-adapting, additive manufactured (AM) structures with temperature-controlled actuators, as well as self-adapting AM structures with pH-controlled actuators will be investigated.

Furthermore, the integration of components for in situ detection & self-adjustment into AM structures is part of the research activities.

The final step is the validation by means of experiments and CFD.

YOUR TASKS

  • Design, manufacturing and experimental evaluation of lattice structures for Smart Reactors
  • Development of mechanisms for selfresponsive structures according to the needs of the reactions, in particular structures that adapt to changes in temperature and flow
  • Generating a fundamental understanding of the influence of the lattices and the selfresponsive structures within the reactor, in cooperation with the other researchers of the project
  • Design, manufacturing and evaluation of the implementation of functional surfaces and sensors using Additive Manufacturing
  • Collaboration with other researchers from the CRC in the area of Additive Manufacturing and lattice structures

YOUR PROFILE

  • Prior experience in one or more of the following fields is advantageous: Additive Manufacturing, specifically with a focus on powder bed based processes, design of components for process engineering, lattice structures / periodic open cell structures
  • Thorough skills in CAD are required
  • Good English language skills are required for project management and publication activities
  • Strong communication skills for the interaction within an interdisciplinary team

OUR OFFER

  • We offer you the opportunity for scientific qualification with the goal of a doctoral degree (PhD)
  • You will become part of a committed team
  • Highly innovative, dynamic technical environment with access to stateofthe Art AM technology
  • Opportunity to actively contribute to a topic of high relevance for society and environment and make a difference
