Within the Casualty Underwriting department of EULA 1, we offer a dynamic, progressive and collaborative work environment with a diverse set of clients (multinational, local clients with international and entirely local scope) for the markets UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and the Nordics.

We deal with all Casualty classes, however, with a clear bias towards motor, as the responsibility for our Admiral relationship rests within our departments.

We cooperate closely with our claims team in London as well as with our primary insurance company, Great Lakes SE, to provide co-insurance solutions for our clients.

We are looking to strengthen our Admiral UW Team (focus on the expansion markets) as well as our UK Motor Team with a highly motivated and experienced Senior Underwriter eager to challenge and develop our underwriting team as well as our overall business proposition.

Casualty is a strong contributor towards our business division's "Ambition 2025" and we strive to grow our portfolio with a clear focus on sustainable profitability in these technically very challenging markets.

This position is part of the extended leadership team within EU/LA1.5 and hence characterized by a diverse set of responsibilities to identify and drive topics and opportunities forward together with the team.


Your job

  • Acquiring and/or renewing, assessing, structuring and pricing Casualty treaty reinsurance business while further developing underwriting standards
  • Driving business development together with Client Management and fostering a business development mindset
  • Ensuring quality in underwriting
  • Train and develop our new underwriting talents
  • Further develop our sophisticated monitoring capabilities
  • Proactively supporting management in developing and executing the Casualty Underwriting strategy as well as the further development of the overall team

Your profile

  • University degree or apprenticeship in primary and/ or reinsurance
  • Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience, detailed understanding of reinsurance and primary insurance
  • Indepth knowledge and experience in underwriting Casualty treaty business; with a particular focus on the motor lines of business
  • Experience in structuring and monitoring of proportional reinsurance participations
  • Sound knowledge of portfolio steering, underwriting KPIs and (pricing, etc.) tools
  • Client and solutionoriented mindset as well as the ability to identify clients' needs and transform these into viable concepts and profitable business
  • Team player, capable of leading a team and of demonstrating business acumen
  • Enthusiasm and ability to drive business projects, assume responsibility and provide support, guidance, inspiration and leadership to the team
  • Strong quantitative/analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skillset
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Power BI and data analytics tools
  • Ability to communicate transparently and to empower others through effective knowledge sharing
  • Very good negotiating skills and assertiveness, particularly with regard to dealing with brokers
  • Reliability with an outstanding commitment and willingness to travel
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken); other languages (Italian, French and Spanish) will be beneficial
