Research assistant / post doctoral researcher
MSH Medical School Hamburg
  • University of Applied Sciences and Medical University
is a private,
state-recognized university located in the modern Hamburg Hafencity. Founded in 2009, it offers a
variety of bachelor's and master's degree programs, as well as the state examination program in
human medicine at four faculties.

Work at MSH is defined by interdisciplinary, professional thinking and acting, striving for innovation
and quality. At all faculties of the university, emphasis is placed on living a constructive coexistence
and growing together.

MSH is part of a university network that also includes the BSP Business and Law School with locations
in Berlin and Hamburg, the MSB Medical School Berlin, and the HMU Health and Medical University in
Erfurt and Potsdam.

We are looking for a research assistant (post doc) to support our team in Hamburg as soon as possible.

Your Tasks:

The successful applicant will run the new laser-EEG laboratory equipped for human research in the
fields of neurophysiology and pain in the group of Prof. Ulf Baumgärtner. The MSH combines
interdisciplinary and interprofessional teaching and research with a larger number of health-related
study courses under the same roof. Hence, cooperative research between medical, clinical
psychotherapy, physiotherapy and exercise/sports departments offers great potential in setting up
joint projects aiming at finding neurophysiologic correlates of treatment or training success and
promoting current understanding of the interaction of pain processing with other sensory and motor
function. Core method connected with the offered position here will be EEG-recording and analysis
together with psychophysiology in healthy volunteers and patients from the local outpatient services
an/or clinical partners. In specific, EEG-measures like resting state, evoked potentials, non-phase
with three new branches "under construction" is possible as well (sleep, TMS, VR).

Your profile:

  • You are a motivated and ambitious postdoctoral researcher who takes up the challenge to
start a new lab and likes to fathom collaborations with neighboring fields resulting in pilot data
and, ultimately, grant proposals

  • The position requires a completed MD (Dr. med.) or PhD degree preferably related to
neurophysiology, (neuro-)psychology or neuroscience.

  • Previous EEGexpertise is not strictly mandatory but surely beneficial, as well as earlier
scientific publications. Skills in Matlab, Letswave, Besa, spm, SPSS are most welcome.

  • You should have proven that you are able to work independently after the initial
adaptation/training phase

  • Good knowledge of English is essential
  • It is expected the applicant engages in a German course (if German is not the mother tongue)
in order to be able to communicate with patients (not from day one).

We offer:

  • We offer you a challenging position with a wide range of tasks, demanding areas of
responsibility, high degree of creative freedom, and individual career perspectives.

  • A strong, committed team with great research ambitions.
  • A fulltime, permanent position
containing at least a brief letter of motivation, CV, publication list and certificate of MD / PhD degree.
