A major key to success in facing climate change and creating more resilient supply chains is the transformation of feedstocks from fossil resources to renewable raw materials.

Led by the Hamburg University of Technology, the CRC 1615 is developing processes and reactors that respond flexibly to the fluctuating properties of renewable raw materials, thus enabling self-adapting, more resilient process engineering.

Project B03:

Magnetic resonance imaging of large-scale multiphase and reactive flow systems

Within the project you will work in the field of process imaging on a unique magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device that is tailored for process imaging.

Your task will be to develop new image reconstruction algorithms that allow to compute tomographic images with a high spatiotemporal resolution from a limited amount of measurement data.

Within the project you will also work on methods that allow reconstructing other process variables than the concentration such as velocity, the temperature, and the chemical composition of the phases within a reactor.

YOUR TASKS

  • Development and implementation of new reconstruction algorithms, especially in the field of magnetic resonance imaging
  • Use of machine learning methods to improve image quality
  • Application of the methods in the field of process imaging
  • Authoring of English publications
  • Supervision of German and international students in the context of their projects and theses

YOUR PROFILE

  • Completed scientific university studies, especially in the fields of computer science, mathematics, physics
  • Experience with tomographic imaging methods e.g. in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Very good programming skills especially in the field of scientific computing (e.g. in Julia, Python, Matlab, C/C++)
  • Very good knowledge in the area of image and signal processing as well as the area of inverse problems
  • Very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to work independently, analytical, conceptual thinking, flexibility, commitment, and ability to work in a team

OUR OFFER

  • We offer you the opportunity for scientific qualification with the goal of a doctoral degree (PhD)
  • You will publish and present your research results at international conferences
  • Flexible and familyfriendly working conditions, 30 days of vacation per year
  • Special conditions in selected sports and fitness clubs
