The Thimme/Hofmann lab, Clinic for Internal Medicine II, University Medical Center Freiburg, is looking for


2 PhD Students (M/F/d):


  • We focus on translational research in the field of immune responses against hepatitis viruses as well as SARS-CoV2 and hepatocellular carcinoma. Our results contribute to a better understanding of human immune responses with implications for therapeutic strategies.

Job description:


  • Aim of the DFGfunded project is to understand immunemediated pathology as a consequence of impaired immune reactions. The project is integrated in the collaborative research center 1160 investigating HBVspecific CD8+ T cells in outcome and pathogenesis of HBV infection. Your work will unravel diverging mechanisms of antigenspecific CD8+ T cell dysfunction result in protective versus pathogenic responses in chronic hepatitis B virus infection.

Your work includes but is not limited to:

  • autonomous processing of research tasks dealing with immune responses in chronic viral infections
- working with infectious sample material (S3** lab)
- establishing of new methods to elaborate on subsequent research questions
- presentation of results on regular lab and consortium meetings and (inter-)national conferences
- supervision of students


Prerequisites:

- we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys translational scientific work in an interdisciplinary and international team
- strong interest in translational research and human immunology
- distinct working autonomy combined with a high capacity for teamwork
- a careful and focused working habit
- enjoy scientific work
- awareness of careful documentation
- ability to work independently and as a part of an international team
- communication skills in English
- knowledge in presentation skills
