Beschreibung
In order to support the "Thermal Systems & Products Germany" department, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

Master Thesis student (d/f/m) in the field of Linear Control Analysis Methodology:

  • Location: Friedrichshafen
  • Start:
  • Duration: 6 month

A software tool has been developed at Airbus Defence and Space GmbH which transfers the thermal network used in the classical lumped parameter method of satellite systems thermal analysis to a standard linear control system, and subsequently solves this system either in the standard time domain or in the frequency domain.

Application of this type of analysis becomes more and more important for missions where extremely demanding requirements on geometrical and thus thermo-elastic stability are involved.

It allows specific thermal stability analyses without running extensive transient thermal analysis and offers improved accuracy and limited analysis effort.

To date some non-linear solver used for additional analysis types have already been implemented in the given tool. Yet, more variability is requested for further progress.

Present reference missions are the joint ESA-NASA Cosmic Vision missions LISA to be launched in late 2030s, and ESA's galactic census mission Gaia, launched in 2013.

In order to achieve an accuracy that would allow to measure, if the sensor was on Earth, the thumbnail of a person on the Moon, the Gaia stability requirements are to be evaluated over a 6 hour observation cycle in the standard time domain.

In the beginning the student shall review the available tool and relevant functions or routines to suggest improvements.

Depending on the outcome, a final tool shall be established which creates inputs for automatically running the thermal model, based on heat balance calculation, and also create all necessary outputs for post-processing.

Finally, the tool shall allow comparing different analysis results with the corresponding load case.

Your location:

At the Airbus site in Friedrichshafen you will be working on innovation where others spend their holidays. Enjoy panoramic views of Lake Constance while having lunch in our canteen. And after work, join one of our many corporate sports groups to go running, sailing or skiing.

Your benefits:

  • Attractive salary and worklife balance with an 35hour week (flexitime).
  • Traveling overseas or within Germany (team events) is possible after consultation and agreement from the department.
  • International environment with the opportunity to network globally.
  • Work with modern/diversified technologies.
  • At Airbus, we see you as a valuable team member and you are not hired to brew coffee, instead you are in close contact with the interfaces and are part of our weekly team meetings.
  • Opportunity to participate in the Generation Airbus Community to expand your own network.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

The thesis is aimed in particular at students of the following disciplines: computer science, applied informatics, automation engineering or mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering.

Basic thermodynamic and engineering knowledge is helpful for working on the following topics:

  • Literature research on linear control systems including aspects and limits of linearization and methods for solving the thermal system
  • Classification and rating of techniques for heat balance calculation
  • Identification and definition of possible postprocessing features
  • Translation and implementation of algorithms into Python
  • Implementation of the algorithms within an existing Graphical User Interface
  • Analysis and verification of the algorithms for representative thermal models
  • Documentation (in English) and presentation of the work

Desired skills and qualifications:

  • Enrolled fulltime student (d/m/w) in the area of computer science, applied informatics, automation engineering or mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or an equivalent field of study.
  • First practical experience in the field of programming (C++, Python) is desirable.
  • Fluent in English and German

Please upload the following documents:
cover letter, CV, relevant transcripts, enrollment certificate.
