EUMETSAT's Legal Affairs Division (LAD) is responsible for providing legal advice across the Organisation and for protecting its legal interests, and for maintaining, interpreting and developing the Organisation's legal framework.

With the growth of EUMETSAT in recent years and the addition of new activities, the work of LAD has become increasingly diverse and broad in scope.


An internship within LAD therefore allows a unique insight into the myriad of legal issues facing an international organisation active in the fields of meteorology and climate observation.

The intern will be part of a small team (five lawyers and three administrative staff), which will allow him or her to be involved in a broad array of activities.

He or she will have the opportunity to interact with other EUMETSAT divisions, in order to become acquainted with the administrative functioning of the Organisation.


At the same time, LAD will benefit from the academic knowledge brought by the intern and will strive to provide him or her with a meaningful working experience.


Duties:


The intern will:
- work on various assignments including performing research, drafting legal opinions, revising documents from other Divisions;
- prepare summaries, meetings and presentations;
- work with Legal Officers in charge of various areas of responsibility of LAD, such as institutional law, international civil service law, cooperation agreements, satellite programmes, and personal data protection.

  • In addition, the intern will support relevant daytoday activities within the team.

  • Darmstadt, Germany
    QUALIFICATIONS:
The internships are open to master students with mandatory internship requirements in relevant disciplines such as law.


LANGUAGES:

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. It is necessary to be able to work effectively in English.

Some knowledge of French would be an advantage.

Duties:


The intern will:
- work on various assignments including performing research, drafting legal opinions, revising documents from other Divisions;
- prepare summaries, meetings and presentations;
- work with Legal Officers in charge of various areas of responsibility of LAD, such as institutional law, international civil service law, cooperation agreements, satellite programmes, and personal data protection.

  • In addition, the intern will support relevant daytoday activities within the team.

Skills and Experience:


  • The intern should be aiming for a career in international organisations, in public international law or in the aerospace sector.
  • The intern should have the ability to work independently and to manage several assignments in parallel.
  • Have the ability to work effectively in English.
The ability to communicate with tact would be advantageous:


  • The intern should be computer literate;
  • The intern should have the ability to take the initiative in researching ideas;
  • The intern should have the ability to collect, collate, conceptualize and present information clearly.

Additional specific requirements:

  • Knowledge of international and European law would be an advantage.

No salary is paid to interns who are still in studies, however a daily allowance and contribution to travel / accommodation costs may be provided.

The conditions will be established taking into account the requirements and policy of the intern's educational institution.

Interns are responsible for providing their own health and accident insurance and for finding their own accommodation in Darmstadt.
