Kiron Open Higher Education gGmbH is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 with the mission to enable access to high-quality education for refugees and underserved communities through digital solutions.

In order to achieve our goal, we are looking for someone who will bridge the gap between our software development, our internal processes and our data security responsibilities and obligations towards partners and in our projects.

As our new Information Security Officer


you will ensure that we handle student and other private data responsibly across the organization, whether through the Kiron Campus, through external platforms, in projects with our partners, through our operational processes or through our internal IT setup.

You will also be the liaison between Kiron and our external data privacy officer.


You will own:
All processes that involve handling of private data, for our students / users, partners and internal stakeholders:
Internally, your tasks will include
- )Ensuring GDPR compliance across all systems and processes.
- )Ensuring data privacy and competent handling for Kiron Campus users.
- )Providing internal IT and data support.
- )Conducting data security audits.
- )Conducting internal data security and GDPR compliance trainings.

Working with partners and projects, your tasks may include
- )Systematic analysis of security tests.

Developing a roadmap for further development of external platforms securing functionality.
- )Develop a security concept for these platforms.
- )Developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with data protection guidelines.

Internal stakeholders
- )Product Teams.
- )Operations Team / People Team.
- )Project Managers.

External stakeholder
- )Data Privacy Officer.


About you:
To succeed and grow in this position, you will likely be:

  • )Knowledgeable in information security.
- )A clear communicator, able to translate complex information into understandable language, to set up clear guidelines and to help stakeholders navigate these topics.
- )Proactive in identifying gaps in data security and taking ownership to resolve.
- )Flexible and resilient, able to work on a variety of different tasks related to data security (IT, process management, legal/contracts) and to interact with different stakeholders.
- )Detail-oriented, yet able to keep a bird's eye view of Kiron's data and IT infrastructure.
- )Passionate about our mission to democratize education and to protect our students' data.
- )Fluent in English.


and will likely have:
- )Professional experience in data protection management, information security or similar areas.
- )A relevant Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- )Outstanding IT and tech skills.
- )Worked with a range of data (from employees, to students, to partners).

This is what you can expect
- )After your first month, you will complete the onboarding process and develop a good understanding of the IT infrastructure and processes at Kiron involving the processing of personal data.
- )After three months, you will take ownership over the topic of data security, critically evaluate existing internal policies and work on necessary adaptations and new policies in collaboration with the operations team, developers and other internal stakeholders.
- )After six months, you will have a solid understanding of information security in the context of Kiron, including in our collaboration with partners, and will lead the implementation of data processing policies within the organization.
- )After 1 year, you will have implemented robust data processing and data security systems within Kiron and for our projects.


Your compensation:
- )The range foreseen for this role is between Euros / monthly.
